Motivation for writing the article
My article Dissertatiuncula apud Principes was written in response to the complex political situation in the contemporary world. Against this backdrop, I wanted to revive and highlight the profoundly conciliatory thinking of Justus Lipsius, set out in his speech of the same name published in 1600, which is particularly relevant today.
In this text, Lipsius proposes a model of the state based on integration and harmony, in which each citizen has an essential value and occupies an irreplaceable place within the whole. To illustrate this idea, he uses classical metaphors, comparing the state to both a family and the human body, following in the tradition of Roman authors such as Seneca. In this way, the humanist emphasises the interdependence between individuals and the need for cooperation for the common good.
Lipsio insists that the ruler must guide the state by always putting the common good before private interests, a fundamental principle for building a just and stable community. His political ideal is oriented towards an integrative and inclusive state, capable of embracing diversity and strengthening coexistence through mutual respect. To this end, he evokes the example of those emperors who consolidated the greatness of Rome through balance, justice and moderation, in contrast to tyrannical figures such as Nero, whose rule led to decline and conflict.
Finally, Lipsius defends peace as the indispensable condition for the flourishing of peoples. Peace is not only the absence of war, but a state of balance based on respect, justice and shared responsibility. In this sense, his thinking transcends national borders and invites us to conceive of ourselves as citizens of the world, committed to the construction of a political and social order oriented towards the common good and universal peace.
The importance of the assistance provided by Global Journal
Global Journal has been a fundamental support both in the process of writing my article and in the projection and visibility of my work as an independent researcher. In the Spanish academic context, where I have found it particularly difficult to access publication channels and become part of a research team, I have developed my work independently, facing many difficulties.
In this regard, Global Journal has played a decisive role, providing me with academic and human support and allowing me to continue my research work, which is sometimes arduous and full of obstacles. As a child living in Spain, I dreamed of the American dream; today, Global Journal has made it a reality.
It is a journal that transcends borders and whose main commitment is to rigorous research and shared knowledge. From this open and inclusive perspective, it has welcomed and accompanied me, offering the guidance and support necessary for my work to achieve academic validity and meet the required quality standards.
Motivational quote: Research, demanding and often solitary, leaves a lasting mark on the world. Each courageous step challenges the limits of knowledge, asks new questions, uncovers ideas or facts that were previously beyond our reach, and brings us closer to discoveries that endure. As Virgil recalled in the Aeneid: “Fortune favours the bold” (“Audentis Fortuna iuvat”) (Verg. A.10, 284).
